James Sheard has been writing and publishing poetry for over 20 years. He completed the M.A. Writing at Sheffield Hallam University in 2003. His pamphlet from that year – Hotel Mastbosch – won the Ictus Prize, and went on to be the Poetry Book Society’s Pamphlet Choice for Winter 2003.

His first full collection - Scattering Eva - was published by Cape in 2005, and was shortlisted for both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Glen Dimplex Award for Poetry.

His collection Dammtor was published in September 2010 and was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation.

A collection – Scattering Eva –was published in 2005 with Jonathan Cape, and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2005 and the Glenn Dimplex New Writers’ Award 2006 in the poetry category.

His work also appears in the generational anthology Identity Parade, theTen Hallam Poets Anthology from Mews Press, The Forward Book of Poetry 2006 and various print publications, including The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday and The London Review of Books.

I teach undergraduate Creative Writing at Levels 1 and 2. For the MA in Creative Writing, I teach Writing Poetry, The Writer As Critic, The Critic As Writer, and The Writer in the Community.

I co-supervise PhDs in Creative Writing where the Dissertation is in poetry.
