Circling

Circling and Circling (Again)

Circling began as an Institute of Liberal Arts fellowship, during which Ceri and Anna worked together on a pilot project looking at some of the mundane routes, pathways and journeys undertaken by individuals living with persistent pain. 6 participants with different pain conditions, and of varying ages and backgrounds, attended workshops that combined dance or movement scores with geopoetics (place-responsive creative practice) prompts. Typically, the scores focused on a specific, indoor task, whilst the prompts had a broader brief, featuring outdoor, place-based mobilities. 1 participant based in Glasgow took part at a distance, prefiguring many human interactions during the pandemic.

Circling (Again) saw Anna work with participants to make new films. It also saw bioethicist, Anthony Wrigley, contribute to the project in thinking about generating hope in apparently hopeless situations. An exhibition featuring films, artworks by the participants, and quotations from them was unable to be launched due to Covid-19. Anna was then commissioned to make an online artefact based on the exhibition and project (see website link).
