Keele programme supports growing enterprises with top talent

Keele University Marketing and Psychology student Rosie Crowther got proactive and landed herself a placement with Essential Marketer in Birmingham. With funding provided by Santander, Rosie was able to benefit from a 10-week paid internship which has further boosted her CV.
Rosie, pictured with her supervisor Joshua Barber, says: “The marketing agency focuses on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and web design. I learnt many SEO-related skills and was responsible for editing client websites, ordering content for websites, conducting keyword research and content plans for clients, purchasing websites with high trust and credible backlinks, writing page titles and meta descriptions and analysing the success of websites. This included monitoring the location of clicks on sites and how many clicks the site gets each month. I used various website software, including WordPress, SquareSpace, Webmasters, Google Analytics, Google Ad Words and Majestic.
“I found the internship extremely beneficial and feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to acquire such invaluable experience. I have learnt many practical marketing skills which complement my studies and have had the opportunity to do a wide range of digital marketing activities. I learnt ways to optimise and edit websites, whilst ensuring that they comply with Google guidelines. I now have a much better understanding about what digital marketing is all about, and how it is managed in the work place.”
Essential Marketer Director Steve Feeney says: “Placements are about the person, and the quality from Keele is very high. Rosie’s been great, she’s very talented and just got stuck in.” Steve found the programme and support, from engaging the student to managing payment, seamless, commenting: “It’s something we’d do again, and both the company and the student gain.”
