Languages for the Future: Transforming Language Learning for Employability and Global Engagement through Scholarship, Practice and Collaboration

Conference Dates: 7–8 January 2027
Location: Keele University (Staffordshire, ST5 5BG), with hybrid attendance available. To facilitate discussion and networking opportunities, presenters are encouraged to attend and deliver their presentations in person where possible.
Submission Deadline: 15 October 2026
Notification of acceptance: by 2 November 2026
Registration: 15 October – 18 December 2026

The Language Centre at Keele University is delighted to host the 28^th AULC Annual Conference 2027. We invite teachers, researchers, managers, educational developers, doctoral students, and practitioners to submit a proposal for presentations, workshops, and panels, to our upcoming conference.

Under the theme “Languages for the Future: Transforming Language Learning for Employability and Global Engagement through Scholarship, Practice and Collaboration”, the conference aims to explore how language education can respond to the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world. We welcome contributions showcasing scholarship, innovation and effective practice in language teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum design, professional development and community engagement.

Proposals may address, but are not limited to, the following conference strands:

Multilingualism, Interculturality, Global Citizenship and Employability
AI, Technology and Language Learning in a Post-Digital Society
Inclusion, Equity and Access in Language Education
Research-Informed Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Professional Practice and Teacher Development
Innovative Approaches to Grammar and Vocabulary Instruction
Communities of Practice, Partnerships and Community Engagement

We invite proposals for:

Individual Presentations: 15-minute presentations followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion
Panel Discussions: 90-minute panels consisting of 4-5 presenters
Workshops: 60-minute interactive sessions focusing on practical applications or teaching demonstrations

Presentations can be delivered in English, BSL/ISL or other languages provided that AULC’s plurilingual presentations guidelines are followed. Presentations for AULC SIGs are welcome.

Please note that all presenters, including co-authors listed in accepted submissions, are required to register for the conference and pay the applicable registration fee.
