Mathias Mbewe

Biography

Mathias Mbewe is a Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography within the Department of Medical Technologies, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Keele University. He is a registered Diagnostic Radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and an active member of the Society of Radiographers. His clinical expertise lies in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Mathias holds a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Radiography from St Martin?s College, Lancaster, and a Master of Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging from the University of Cumbria, Lancaster. He is currently pursuing Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), reflecting his commitment to pedagogical excellence and professional development.

At Keele University, Mathias contributes to teaching across the Diagnostic Radiography programme and supervises undergraduate dissertation projects. His teaching philosophy centres on research-informed education, fostering critical thinking, reflective practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

His academic and research interests include the application of contrast-enhanced MRI to assess liver function. Mathias is dedicated to advancing radiography education through innovative teaching strategies and scholarly engagement.

Teaching

Mathias has taught physics in high schools before taking up a career in Radiography. He has taught MRI short courses to practicing MRI radiographers and presented MRI radiographic techniques on radiologists on conferences. He currently teaches diagnostic radiography students at all levels along with supervising student research projects.
