Biography
Aastha Monga is an HCPC-registered physiotherapist. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Aastha has worked across a variety of settings, including clinical practice, teaching, and research. She earned her Bachelor of Physiotherapy (2010) and Master of Physiotherapy with a specialization in Musculoskeletal (2012) from Punjabi University, India. She also holds a Master of Arts in Physical Rehabilitation Science (2018) from the University of Iowa, USA.
Before joining Keele in November 2021, Aastha held positions at the Department of Kinesiology, Towson University, Maryland, USA; the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science, University of Iowa, USA; and Gian Sagar College of Physiotherapy, India.
Aastha is an educator and researcher too, with over 13 years of teaching experience, and a record of scholarly work in physical therapy.
Research and scholarship
Aastha has published her masters’ dissertation findings in Human Biology Review Journal (ISSN 2277 - 4424). Her dissertation was also published into a book manuscript by Lambert Academic Publishing (ISBN 978-3-659-42356-7). She presented a research poster at the WCPT Congress, Amsterdam, 2011, titled "Relationships Amongst Gait Speed, Balance and Lower Extremity Muscle Strength in Elderly."
Aastha has recently been awarded the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Pre-Application Support Fund. Her research is looking into improving pain outcomes in children and young people with musculoskeletal conditions.
Further information
Aastha has been awarded the "Practitioner" status by The University of Iowa’s Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) in June 2019 for creating and implementing a Teaching as Research project. In addition, she has taken advanced clinical training in Mulligan Concept course and Myofascial Release (MFR). Aastha has completed specialized postgraduate education that focuses on assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders/conditions.
She has been awarded the Fellow status in recognition of her attainment against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in Higher Education.
