Biography
Professor Ruth Ayres is Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, having joined the institution in January 2026. She has a distinguished track record in leading and delivering teaching excellence and innovation, having previously led two other higher education providers to TEF Gold and TEF Triple Gold.
During her academic career in Environmental Sciences, Professor Ayres developed a growing interest in pedagogy and the student experience, progressing to a range of senior leadership positions in education and the student experience at pre-92, post-92 and Russell Group Universities. In these posts, Professor Ayres was responsible for leading institutional strategies and transformational change initiatives that strengthened academic quality, innovated learning practices and delivered positive outcomes for students across a range of disciplines.
Professor Ayres is passionate about the transformational impact of higher education, and she is dedicated to assuring teaching excellence and a high-quality student experience for all learners. Her focus at Keele is to ensure that the University continues to offer an excellent and distinctive student experience, with high-quality learning and teaching that prepares students well for their future lives and careers.
