Pint of Science, the annual science festival, is returning to North Staffordshire and South Cheshire this May – with organisers putting on the biggest event so far.

Held across three evenings at six venues in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Crewe, the festival is a chance for the general public to hear the latest discoveries, research and work from experts at Keele University and colleagues from Staffordshire University.

A total of seven events will take place from 7pm to 9pm each evening with tickets now on sale at the Pint of Science website. Talks include looking at 20th century wartime archaeology sites around Stoke-on-Trent, rare diseases, and humans living in space.

It's part of a worldwide event bringing science to the masses in easy-to-understand and entertaining ways in cafes, pubs and local venues around the world.

Organiser Dr Jacco van Loon, Reader in Astrophysics at Keele University, said: "Pint of Science is a fantastic opportunity for the public to interact with local scientists and have a really fun evening, too. As a scientist, it helps me to understand more about what matters to people, and what the future holds.

"By trying to relate complex topics to ordinary experiences and share my seemingly outrageous ideas, together we create a deeper understanding of our world and our place in it."

• Tuesday, May 20: Reading histories untold stories. Mellards Bar, Newcastle-under-Lyme; SOLD OUT

• Tuesday, May 20: Nature is all within us. The New Florence pub, Longton; 

• Tuesday, May 20: All shall be revealed! The Roebuck pub, Chesterton;   

• Wednesday, May 21: Dorothy Hodgkin and the chance in life. The Quarter at Potbank, Stoke; SOLD OUT

• Wednesday, May 21: How we control our destiny – or do we? Tom’s Tap and Brewhouse, Crewe. SOLD OUT.
