Keele professor elected as President of esteemed scientific society

A Keele Professor has been elected as the new President of an esteemed scientific research society to honour her significant contribution to the field.
Professor Helen Price was elected as the new President of the British Society for Parasitology at the Society’s Annual General Meeting held in Wurzburg, Germany.
The BSP is one of the largest learned societies in the field of parasitology and has over 1,500 members worldwide, with Professor Price holding the role of President for the next two years. She is also the third academic at Keele to serve as BSP President, with the role previously held by Professor Chris Arme and Professor Hilary Hurd.
Professor Price also had the chance to share her expertise with a global audience recently when she gave a presentation as part of the Second Global Meeting on skin-related neglected tropical diseases (skin NTDs) at the World Health Organisation (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. During the meeting she presented recent updates from the WHO’s Working Group for skin NTDs (psychosocial aspects) which she chairs.
The hybrid meeting was attended by over 1,000 people and included discussion on a new proposal to WHO to make skin diseases a global public health priority.
Professor Price, from Keele’s School of Life Sciences, said: “The meeting was a fantastic opportunity to share progress and perspectives and to help develop new strategies for skin-related NTDs with a diverse group of experts from across the world. Skin conditions can have a profound effect on individuals and deserve to have much greater attention in the global health agenda.”
