Professor Heidi Fuller

Genomes without Borders: Personalised Medicine across Global Health Systems

Professor Heidi Fuller, Professor of Medical Science and Head of School for our School of Allied Health Professions and Pharmacy, will present her inaugural lecture on Tuesday 9th December.

The lecture entitled "Genomes without Borders: Personalised Medicine across Global Health Systems" will begin at 6pm in room SIH LG0.30, in the Denise Coates Foundation Building.

The lecture explores the transformative potential of personalised medicine, with reflections from Heidi on her scientific journey, and emphasises the importance of embracing failure as a catalyst for innovation. Drawing on the Human Genome Project and her work on inherited neuromuscular disease, she illustrates how genomic and proteomic technologies are shaping diagnostics and treatment, with a particular focus on Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Expanding into global contexts, the lecture showcases how personalised medicine is being integrated in a culturally sensitive manner with traditional practices and cutting-edge technologies in countries around the world. Professor Fuller also discusses her role in shaping healthcare education, advocating for training that equips future professionals to be globally minded, technologically skilled, and compassionate.

All are welcome to attend.
