Meet Professor Abigail Locke, Head of School of Psychology at Keele University.

This video was published on 4 August 2025.

Welcome everyone! My name is Professor Abigail Locke. I’m the Head of School of Psychology at Keele University, and I’m a critical social and health psychologist.

I'm really proud to lead the School of Psychology at Keele. It's a learning community of more than 50 years. The School of Psychology has a thriving and dynamic research-based environment. We have specialist lab spaces that look at things like EEG, virtual reality, social media, developmental psychology, and lots of others that will really help you as you go through your studies with us.

Students are at the heart of everything we do and we take the student voice really seriously. We have a huge suite of programmes in the School of Psychology at Keele, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and many of these are accredited by the British Psychological Society.

You can learn and have specialisms in health psychology, forensic psychology, sport and exercise psychology or a whole load of different diverse areas.

Throughout your studies, you'll have the opportunities for real world experience through placements and as an undergraduate student you can actually take the chance to study abroad for a semester.

Psychology is the science of people and we want our research to have a real impact and make a difference to society. What you'll get if you come to the School of Psychology is research-informed education and our research is funded by both research councils and charities.

We have real strengths across four distinct areas: cognition and neuroscience, health and well-being, justice and security, and identities, values and social change.

We're very much looking forward to welcoming you to the School of Psychology at Keele University. Thank you.
