Meet Professor Siobhan Talbott, Head of School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Keele University.
This video was published on 2 December 2025.
Hi, everyone. I’m Professor Siobhan Talbott and I’m the Head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences here at Keele. I'm really proud to lead such a diverse School, which offers such a wide range of different subject areas.
Everything that we teach is underpinned by our research, which is funded by external research councils and charities.
Our teaching facilities are really varied including a podcast lab, a state-of-the-art music studio and more traditional lecture theatres and seminar rooms.
Our in-house expertise is complemented by external guests. So, for example, staff from the UK Parliament come to speak to our politics students and criminology students benefit from hearing from police, the probation services and staff from prisons.
The international and award-winning Earth Stories Film Festival was founded by and is run by students in our School.
Student voice underpins everything we do and we work with the Students’ Union to continually improve your experience.
We care deeply about what our students do after graduation and all of our degrees have an embedded professional development strand within them. All of our students have the option to take a placement and, in the past, our students have completed placements with organisations including the V&A Wedgwood museum, the National Trust, the NHS and the Imperial War Museum North.
Our students also have the option to study abroad, whether that's as part of a summer school or for undergraduate students, a semester abroad or an international year.
I hope to welcome you to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences soon to start your journey as a student at Keele.
