So Keele is located in Staffordshire. So life at Keele is quite unique in that we're a campus environment so you make friends quite easily because you live on campus. You also have major links to the big cities like Manchester and London.
It's a friendly community, you'll always find people who will help you and give directions if you need any.
The biggest piece of advice I could give to students when they first arrive at Keele is to try and join as many societies as possible. You'll have some friends within Pharmacy and also make some friends outwith Pharmacy, so those friends will be with you throughout your degree.
Within the School of Pharmacy, there are support networks to help you with the transition into life at Keele.
In Pharmacy in particular, we have a mentoring scheme.
We make sure that they have someone who they can go to with any problem and expand their thoughts with.
It is really daunting going to a new place, a new life really. That's why they have so many different departments of support. So you shouldn't be scared, just ask.
Pharmacy is entering a very competitive time, so we try to make sure our students are available of the global opportunities that they can follow, and our international students we also encouraged to realise the opportunities that their language ability may give them.
There is a lab aspect of the MPharm course here at Keele and I like it because it reflects how industry is.
There are placements, so you have placements in a community and also hospital, so you get to see what a Pharmacist actually does, as opposed to just have lectures.
We do for example have many staff members who have not just worked in the past in these environments but are currently working in those environments so that our course content and what they teach the students is actually a real portrayal of what is going on.
...and like when you go out when you finish, and you have to go get a job you have got that idea what it is, and you can put it into practise straight away, it makes the transition easier, smoother.
The thing that we're very proud of here is that our personal tuition to our students is extremely important.
The staff are amazing. They're so open, they do their best in making the way you learn easier.
After you've done your undergraduate course, we will make sure that the students can keep contact with their personal tutors, so we're very cognisant that it doesn't stop at the end of your undergraduate course.
So "KAPS" is the Keele Association of Pharmacy Students. It's run by students for students throughout the year. Most of the events that we organise we try to raise money for the end of year ball. So we try to have social events that appeal to people who like to have a drink and also some events that don't involve having a drink.
To me, one of the most important things is the independent prescribing. We have to have Pharmacists as the gateway to the health service.
As Pharmacy moves forward, people should consider going to their Pharmacy before they go to their GP, so Pharmacy is something we're very passionate about.
