Please note, a guarantee of accommodation for disability related needs is only provided if Keele is your first/firm choice and you have applied for accommodation by the given deadline (30 June).
We cannot make a guarantee if Keele is your second/insurance choice, or if you come through Clearing.
Providing evidence
To help us to work with the Accommodation team to meet your requirements, we ask that you provide a copy of any medical evidence you have of your disability/medical condition. The evidence should be a letter from a medical professional (GP, consultant, mental health nurse or other professional) detailing your disability/medical condition and stating the recommendations they would make for your accommodation. This will help us to allocate an appropriate room for you.
You can send your evidence as an attachment to support.dsi@keele.ac.uk or to our postal address:

Please be aware that we will be unable to support any requests for particular accommodation on disability or health grounds without the evidence specified. If you are having difficulties obtaining evidence or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please note that students with specific learning difficulties are not automatically considered as a high priority for on-campus accommodation unless evidence clearly states that they will be unable to manage university life off-campus.
En-suite on-campus DSI Accommodation Fees reduction
What is the accommodation reduction?
The University may be able to offer some financial assistance (in the form of a rent reduction) to students who require on-campus/en-suite accommodation, due to significant disability reasons/medical conditions.
Students who are supported for priority on-campus/en-suite accommodation are not automatically eligible for the rent reduction.
Its purpose is to support disabled students who would not be able to study at Keele without access to on-campus/en-suite accommodation.
Where more suitable accommodation can be found off campus, but your disability makes it difficult to access public transport, we can help you to explore possible additional support, such as eligibility for a taxi allowance via Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
Personal convenience or preference do not form part of the eligibility criteria and will not be considered.
How do I apply for the rent reduction?
If you feel that you would be unable to attend your studies at Keele University, without access to on-campus en-suite accommodation, we will require medical evidence from a Health Professional that confirms you have an ongoing condition, detailing the effect this has on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities on a daily basis and why you require specific on-campus accommodation.
When we have received the relevant evidence and identified what reasonable adjustments are appropriate, we may be able to support your accommodation application and possibly the rent reduction.
Please be aware this is not a guarantee that there will be an appropriate room available due to availability on campus. The University has a finite number of en-suite rooms and if there are no rooms available then the rent reduction offer cannot be made. If the rent reduction is agreed, this will be applied from the date it is agreed and cannot be backdated. As a student, you are responsible for ensuring that you apply to the accommodation team within the key dates, and they will allocate rooms according to their process.
