Charles Creissen

Biography

I studied Chemistry at the University of Sussex where I received an MChem in 2014. I subsequently joined the University of Cambridge in 2014 as a member of the NanoDTC programme and obtained an MRes (Physics, 2015) and a PhD (Chemistry, 2019), in which I developed solar-driven devices for hydrogen evolution using a combination of molecular and solid-state components, under the supervision of Professor Erwin Reisner. I then worked as a Postdoc and Research Engineer at the Collège de France, Paris (2019-2022) with Professor Marc Fontecave, where my research explored heterogeneous catalysts for carbon dioxide conversion and water oxidation.

I joined Keele University in July 2022 as a Lecturer in Physical Chemistry. I am interested in developing sustainable catalysts for the conversion of waste products and greenhouse gases and will explore novel routes to encourage global cooling.

Research and scholarship

We convert waste materials and greenhouse gases into chemicals and fuels using renewable electricity. The products generated can replace fossil fuels, providing a sustainable route to combat climate change.
