Hidden Voices in Primary Care Study
Lead Researchers: Dr Andrew Finney and Dr Angela Clifford
Researchers in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Keele University are working on a research study called Hidden Voices in Primary Care.
This study is focused on understanding the causes and impacts of the recruitment and retention crisis of the general practice non-medical clinical workforce (including practice nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and others). We conducted a short survey from November 2024 to May 2025.
We also surveyed people who have left general practice from a non-medical clinical role in England since 2020 to complete the survey about their views and experiences from their previous role.
Our findings were presented at the Royal College of Nursing Annual Research Conference at the University of Exeter in September 2025. The findings will be disseminated further in due course.
