    Research in Bioengineering

    Research bridges the interface between new advances in science and technology with medicine and clinical practice.  Our approach successfully integrates Keele University's bioengineering research strengths across the faculties of Natural Sciences and Medicine and Health Sciences. We bring together a diverse range of research expertise which includes biologists, physicists, chemists, engineers, mathematicians and clinicians, under a number of scientific areas.

    Regenerative medicine

    Keele University has an exceptional track record in bench and bed-side Regenerative Medicine research, which is recognised across the University and in the wider national and international academic and clinical communities.

    Cancer research

    The Keele cancer group encompasses research extending through the whole drug development process. This includes the identification of new drugs, drug delivery, translational research to identify potential new drug targets and clinical drug candidates, and biomarkers discovery and clinical research.

    Cardio-respiratory

    We study a range of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases from molecular mechanisms through to clinical interventions. Through bringing together the respective knowledge, skills and ideas we aim to deliver exciting interdisciplinary approaches to improve outcomes and experiences for people who experience cardio-respiratory illness.

    Neuroscience and neurology

    This group is composed of academics and clinicians that research a diverse range of neuro-related topics, including neuroprotection, neurodegeneration, cell signalling, inflammation, tissue engineering, biomaterials, neuroplasticity, cognition, traumatic injury, rehabilitation, psychology and neurosurgery.

    Orthopaedics and biomechanics

    This research group is comprised of engineers, scientists, consultants, nurses, mathematicians, psychologists, veterinarians and environmentalists. Their sole aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of humans and animals through science based interventions.

    Materials for biomedical application

    This group is composed of active research staff and diverse research projects since materials are forming strong supportive and standalone role in multiple research directions, especially in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, drug testing and development, and fabrication of new medical devices.

    Medicines optimisation

    We seek to maximise health gain through the optimum use of medicines.

    Our partners in clinical and biomedical research

    We have active collaborations and training programmes with universities throughout the UK, Europe, USA and other countries worldwide. We also bring together researchers from Keele University campus and partner hospitals in North Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire.
