Biography
Alison began her doctorate at Keele in January 2025 after a career in finance. Alison is now a yoga teacher, specialising in women’s health and teaching pre and postnatal classes and hypnobirthing, as well as yoga to adults. She is also a volunteer infant feeding peer supporter for Cherubs, East Cheshire.
Alison’s passion for research came about through looking for best practice care for women attending her classes, helping them to understand the options that were available to them and the latest and best research in those areas.
Research and scholarship
Alison’s PhD is titled: What does effective breastfeeding support look and feel like for women of low socioeconomic status in high income countries? A Dual Perspective led by Women and informed by Healthcare Practitioners.
Alison’s aim is to provide a coherent view of why so many women from low-income backgrounds in high income countries are not able to breastfeed their babies for as long as they would wish, and what societal and cultural changes need to happen to better support them. The research will use the socioecological model and the theoretical domains framework as the theoretical foundation for all studies and will culminate in a co-creative project delivered by both mothers and healthcare practitioners.
