My name's Lucy. I'm employed by the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, I’m studying the Assistant Practitioner Health Apprenticeship at Keele University.
I was inspired to pursue a career in radiography because I took part in something called the kickstart scheme, I was in the MRI department and we worked very closely with the radiographers in MRI and CT, and I found MRI very interesting, and how radiography can assist in diagnosing patients and also in treatment. So just from that, I wanted to be a radiographer and the apprenticeship here at Keele University supports me in getting the skills that need to then become a qualified Assistant Practitioner.
Our lecturers have industry experience, which provides us with the relevant skills that we need to carry out our roles. The support from Keele has been amazing, they've allowed me to manage my time a lot better. The apprenticeship has given me the opportunity
to meet new friends and have a university experience while still working, because I've never been to university before, and I've never had that experience
If I was to describe my apprenticeship in three words I would say practical, relevant and inspiring.
