Breaking the Mould returns for 2025, with more categories than ever before!

The awards shine a spotlight on the growing innovation-led organisations, businesses, not-for-profits and charities that have benefitted from the suite of innovative support programmes that are available from Keele University.

Nominations have now closed. Finalists will be invited to attend the awards ceremony, taking place at Keele University on Thursday 16 October 2025.

Award categories

The Health and Wellbeing award recognises innovative products, services or projects aimed at achieving positive impacts for healthcare systems, health policy, patient outcomes & experience, and benefits for the regional economy.

The Sustainable Futures award recognises innovative products, services or projects aimed at achieving positive impacts on carbon emissions, biodiversity, the circular economy, attitudes and behaviours around sustainability, and benefits for the regional economy.

The Student Placement and Project Provider of the Year award recognises those organisations that provide Keele students with excellent opportunities for experience in the workplace, supporting them to develop their skills, experience and confidence and achieving positive outcomes for both the individual and the host organisation.

The Graduate Employer of the Year award recognises organisations that have provided an outstanding employment experience for Keele graduates in their early roles following graduation.  It recognises employers that understand the value of a degree from Keele and have encouraged employees to make full use of the graduate skills this provides, where possible with a clear pathway for progression in the workplace.

The Social Inclusion award recognises partners that are having a positive impact on addressing social inclusion through product or service design, customer and community engagement, policy impact, or workplace practices, undertaking this as a core business activity.

The Digital Futures award recognises organisations at the forefront of digital technology who are developing ethical and inclusive innovations that will benefit users, communities, and society.

The Going for Growth award recognises the achievements of those partner organisations who are driving business growth, scaling up their operations, and creating high value job opportunities for the area.

The Placement Student of the Year award recognises a Keele student who has wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity a placement brings, making the most of the learning that only a workplace setting can provide, and who has focused clearly on delivering what their host organisation and their clients need.

The Leading Innovation award acknowledges those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in business innovation. This could range from leading a single development project through to a major organisational / business transformation programme.

The Science and Innovation Park Company of the Year award recognises the company, however large or small, that has made an impression over the last year for its development, growth, approach to innovation or skills, and contribution to the Science Park community.

[Please note that all Science and Innovation Park companies will automatically be nominated for this award, and finalists will be selected by a panel of Keele University judges.]

The Outstanding Academic Collaborator (Commercial Partnerships) award acknowledges academic Keele staff members who have developed And sustained Successful partnerships delivering benefits for commercial partners.

The Partnership of the Year award celebrates partnerships between academia and enterprise, where the partner has become an ambassador for the University and/or the region. It recognises the partnerships that have grown from strength to strength, are potentially having an impact regionally, nationally, or internationally.
