Iron Ladies Film Screening and Q&A Session with Dan Draper and Rose Hunter
IRON LADIES – Film Screening + Q&A with Dan Draper and Rose Hunter
Wednesday 04 March, 3pm start, Dorothy Hodgkiss Building, Room DH0.021, Keele University
Join us for a special screening of Iron Ladies, followed by an in‑depth conversation with filmmaker Dan Draper and activist Rose Hunter.
About the Film
Iron Ladies is the latest documentary from Liverpool‑based filmmaker Dan Draper, whose work explores themes of place, identity, class, and politics. Draper’s debut feature, Nature of the Beast (2017), was released in cinemas across the UK and established his reputation for thoughtful, socially engaged storytelling. Since then, he has produced and directed five further feature documentaries, each delving into the lived experiences of working‑class communities.
Iron Ladies focuses on the vital but often overlooked role of women during the 1984/85 Miners’ Strike. Through powerful testimony and archival material, the film highlights the resilience, solidarity, and political activism of the women who stood at the heart of the struggle.
Post‑Screening Q&A
Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a Q&A with:
Dan Draper
Documentary filmmaker and founder of Shut Out the Light Films. Draper’s work continues to champion stories rooted in community, social justice, and political history.
Rose Hunter
Chair of the North Staffs Miners’ Wives Action Group, Rose Hunter has been a leading voice in preserving and sharing the experiences of women involved in the Miners’ Strike. As an activist, community organiser, and advocate for working‑class women’s history, she brings invaluable insight into the lived realities behind the film.
