Maxwell Quartet Concert
Wednesday 22 April 2025
Keele University Chapel, 7:30pm
Maxwell Quartet
Praised by The Strad for their “superb storytelling,” the Maxwell Quartet blends classical mastery with the rich folk heritage of their native Scotland. Formed by lifelong friends who met in youth orchestras, their performances radiate warmth, virtuosity, and a deep musical bond.
Known for pairing Haydn quartets with their own folk-inspired compositions, the ensemble has toured internationally—from Wigmore Hall and Berlin Konzerthaus to sold-out US venues and BBC broadcasts. Their acclaimed projects include Worksongs, exploring Scotland’s industrial folk traditions, and Gather, a sweeping journey through centuries of Scottish music.
Collaborators range from Grammy-winning artists to leading composers and creatives across genres. In 2025–26, they debut at Carnegie Hall and premiere a new work by Eleanor Alberga. With a passion for innovation and connection, the Maxwell Quartet continues to expand the possibilities of string quartet performance.
