Festival of People, Planet & Place: Keele History & Geology Tour

Thursday 23rd April 2026
Please meet in Keele Hall Courtyard, 4pm

This walk combines the geology and history of Keele. The geology dates back at least 311 million years and controls the landscape of North Staffordshire (Keele is the watershed between the Severn, Dee and Trent River catchments), which in turn influences the development of industry and the transport geography of the region.

The walk will also look at the more recent history of Keele from the Knights Templar, through the ownership of the Sneyd family and their two Keele Halls, and links back to the geology via the oldest historic feature identifiable on campus, the quarry for the stone of the first Elizabethan Keele Hall.

Please wear suitable clothing for an outdoors walk.
