Blossom Picnic

You’re invited to join us for a community Blossom Picnic celebrating Keele University’s National Collection of Cherry Trees, as part of the Festival of People, Planet and Place — and to mark Earth Day 2026.

Join us on Wednesday 22 April 2026, between 12pm–2pm, along the beautiful Cherry Tree Walk.

Bring your own picnic to enjoy with friends or colleagues, take part in gentle, mindful crafting activities, and take a moment to unwind amongst the stunning spring blossoms that make this campus so special.

There will be blossom‑themed nibbles and drinks to sample. Some deck chairs and bean bags will be available, and you’re very welcome to bring your own picnic blanket to make yourself comfortable. And if you’re feeling festive, feel free to wear something pink!

Alongside the picnic, there will be a range of blossom‑inspired creative activities for all ages. Niall Hammond from Keele University Chapel will be offering blossom‑themed origami, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and create something beautiful. Local artist Shiv McAleer will also be leading a collaborative community artwork, where participants can use reclaimed jewellery and beads to help make a blossom‑themed sun catcher

A special cherry tree information stand will be available throughout the event, where you can learn more about Keele’s remarkable collection and meet Dr Sarah Taylor, Curator of the Cherry Tree Collection.

Following the picnic, you will also have the opportunity to join a guided walk to explore the trees in more depth.

Please note:
This event is weather dependent, and while nature follows its own timetable, this week historically offers the best chance to experience our cherry trees in bloom based on previous flowering data.
