FOLK An evening of art, music and willow stars

FOLK An evening of art, music and willow stars

Chapter's Cafe, Union Square, Keele University | Monday 20 October 2025 | drop in between 5:30 - 7pm | Parking free on campus after 5pm including pay and display car parks.

Join us in the warm and welcoming Chapters Café for a cosy evening celebrating the work of local artist Chib Smith—an illustrator, maker, and storyteller whose creations are steeped in folklore, magic, and ancestral traditions.

Chib’s practice draws deeply from myths, legends, and personal narratives, weaving intricate monochrome ink illustrations and handmade objects that explore the hidden stories within nature, superstition, and ritual. Her work is a visual incantation—meditative, immersive, and deeply connected to the rhythms of the natural world.

At 6pm Chib will perform a reading of a poem and unveil an illustration of the Woodwose, both created especially for this event.

As part of the evening, guests are invited to create their own willow star—a symbolic craft that will guide us into the darker months. All accompanied by relaxing live music from local musician Finn.

At 7pm, participants are welcome to join a short, guided walk around campus, carrying their willow stars as part of Keele’s Festival of Light celebration to mark Diwali. Let your handmade star light the way.
