French is used on a daily basis by around 280 million people across the 5 continents and is the 9th most spoken language in the world. It is also the official language of many international organisations which are often based in French speaking cities such as Geneva, Brussels and of course Paris. It is also a language which has always been appreciated for the beauty of its sounds and the variety of its structures. The study of French gives you access to a rich culture for which France is known for. Finally as France is the world’s first tourist destination, being able to speak and understand French allows you to enjoy the French lifestyle – ‘l’art de vivre à la française! - as well as communicate with the extraordinary variety of people and places in metropolitan France and in the French speaking world.

There are 10 levels (stage 1-10). The qualifications table will show you the most appropriate module for your level of language competence. Where GCSE qualifications are given, we assume these were taken 2-5 years ago.
Times for classes are dependent on the Keele undergraduate timetable and will only be available from the beginning of the academic year.
Students taking our language modules may also have the opportunity to get first-hand experience of language and culture during vacation periods – See Residential Summer Language Courses .
