Spanish

Being able to speak Spanish, the official language in 23 countries and the second language in USA, can open up a whole new world whether that means travelling in South America, making the most of holidays in Spain or using language skills to get a better job. Spain is one of the UK 's major trading partners. Whatever career you choose to follow, your Spanish skills will help you get more from life.

At Keele we offer 12 levels of Spanish, from absolute beginner to post-A-level, available to all Keele students and staff.

The Language Centre offers up to 12 levels (stages 1 - 12), from absolute beginner to post A level. It is important to select the appropriate level based on your previous experience. To help you decide please click here for a helpful guide or contact our administration team (languages@keele.ac.uk) who will be happy to discuss this further with you.

These stages are comparable to the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR) for further details please see Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Times for classes are dependent on the Keele undergraduate timetable and may be any time between 9.00 am and 7.00 pm Monday to Friday. Times will be available from the beginning of each semester.  Please note that a number of language classes will be timetabled on Wednesday afternoons to avoid clashes with core modules.

Every effort is made to minimize timetable clashes for students. However, as each language module caters for students from all years of study and all three subject timetable blocks this is not possible in all cases. If an unresolvable timetable clash occurs your core module takes priority.

What our students say

Here's what some of our previous students had to say about our Spanish Modern Language modules:

"The tutor is fantastic and has helped me to grasp the grammar side of Spanish with great ease. She is very enthusiastic which motivated me to make sure my additional homework was completed and encouraged me to engage within class participation."

"I feel that what I've covered in Spanish 1 will help me to learn more Spanish in my free time."

"The amount covered was appropriate and I feel like I've learned a lot. I hope to be able to continue doing Spanish modules next year to further my knowledge in the Spanish language."

"A well-structured module with an excellent tutor. Really feel like you're getting to know the language and culture of Spanish speaking countries."

"Fantastic tutor. Very much enjoy the way in which languages are taught at Keele."
