Equality and diversity training and guidance

Keele University is committed to ensuring that our staff have the necessary knowledge and skills around equality and diversity issues.  We have a number of training opportunities available throughout the year, depending on your location within the University.  If you are interested in finding out more please contact the Organisational Development team in the first instance.

All new starters are required to attend the Keele Welcome Programme, in which a mandatory session on equality and diversity takes place. The session includes all of the protected characteristics, an introduction to some of the issues, unconscious bias, and the expectations placed on all staff.

In addition to learning opportunities through Organisational Development, the University has developed a number of online courses, available to all staff through Keele Learning Pool. Courses can be browsed through the Equality and Diversity section. You can find out more about Keele Learning Pool and access the portal on the Intranet.

Currently available online courses include:

  • Equality in the Workplace (Mandatory)
  • Bias Awareness
  • Introduction to Providing Reasonable Adjustments
  • Introduction to Deaf Awareness.

In person training is advertised on an annual basis and includes LGBTI+ Allies, Introduction to Islam and specific aspects of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) relevant to current topics (e.g. EDI in the Research Excellence Framework).
