Kitchen appliances

For the safety of you and your fellow students, there are certain kitchen appliances that are prohibited for use in student accommodation.

Your kitchen will include information on how to use the appliances contained within it, as well as information on which additional appliances of your own you may add. If this information is missing, please contact your Hall Cleaning Services team.

The Licence Agreement for 2023-24 states that you are not allowed any additional kitchen appliances.

For the academic year 2023-24 the University has agreed that toasters will be exceptionally allowed for use in your kitchen subject to the following conditions: - 

  1. Only one toaster allowed per communal kitchen and must not be used elsewhere including in study bedrooms  
  2. Toaster must, before being used in any communal kitchen, be: -
      1. PAT tested
      2. CE compliant /CE marked and
      3. fused to British Standard BS1363 and with British plugs
  3. Clutter must be kept to a minimum on kitchen work surfaces in particular near toaster and hobs as they can accidentally be switched on or catch fire. 

Remember

  • Never leave cooking unattended
  • Regularly clean toasters and grill pans (at least twice per week)
