Research and scholarship
Ezgi’s research ranges across the fields of socio-legal studies, law in everyday life, and social and cognitive justice, and takes an interdisciplinary approach to socio-legal research at the intersections of law, social sciences and the humanities. She is the author of a number of peer-reviewed articles and chapters in edited collections, and the co-editor of Supporting Legal Capacity in Socio-Legal Context (2022, Hart).
In 2022, Ezgi has been awarded a prestigious ESRC New Investigator Grant with her research project ‘In Search of Legal Capacity: Law, Guardianship, and Supported Decision-Making in Intellectually Disabled People's Lives in Turkey’. The project seeks to understand the challenges and opportunities of supporting the right to legal capacity of intellectually disabled people in Turkey by collecting new data via a range of methods, including arts-based methods with intellectually disabled people and their families. Commencing in December 2022, the project will run over 30 months in collaboration with the Association of Women with Disabilities (ENG-KAD) from Turkey.
Ezgi is happy to supervise postgraduate research students in the areas of socio-legal studies, gender and sexuality, and intellectual disability and legal capacity, as well as those with a regional interest in Turkey, the Middle East and the global South more broadly.
Ongoing: Debbie Foss (2021-2027). Second supervisor with Dr Laura Pritchard-Jones.
