Woodland Nature Trail

Stop O

point-17 white well The White Well was built in an Italianate style in the 1860s and was used to supply water to the Hall.

Behind and to the right of the well is a rather spindly Pagoda Tree Styphnolobium japonica. A native of China, it was first known from Japanese gardens - hence its name. It is an uncommon tree but grows quickly in sunny spots - so its shady locality here is less than ideal!

The leaves are similar to those of the Tree of Heaven and Varnish Tree being rather frond-like, 15-25cm long and with 10-15 leaflets.

You have now finished your Woodland Walk!
