TV licensing

If you watch or record live television as it is broadcast or use BBC iPlayer in any way, you will need a TV licence.

You will need a TV license regardless of the kind of device you use to watch or record live television programming. You will also need a licence to download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch-up, or on demand. Check out the  TV Licensing website ‌for more information. If you use a TV without a licence, you could be given a fine of up to £1,000.

Please note that not all rooms have TV aerial points and that reception in some halls of residence can be poor.

TV License refund

If students move out for the summer vacation they may be entitled to extra holiday spending money in the form of a TV License refund.

If a student is leaving their halls or rented accommodation and moving to a licensed address, they can apply for a refund.

They will need to ensure there's at least one month left on their TV Licence.

The process is simple and can be done online.

Students must have their TV Licence details and evidence ready to show that their licence is no longer needed..
