PAT testing
PAT Testing is the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination, but some types of defect can only be found by testing.
To help you comply with your Accommodation Terms and Conditions, all electrical items used in University accommodation must have a valid Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) certificate. To make this as easy as possible, we provide free PAT testing sessions at the start of each semester.

If you miss the University PAT testing sessions, or bring a new electrical item to campus after the sessions have taken place, you will need to arrange for the item to be PAT tested privately by a qualified person at your own expense. You can find a local provider by searching online for "PAT testing near me".

Any electrical item with a plug that you intend to use on campus must be PAT tested.

Please bring both the electrical item and its power lead/plug for testing. If you have a large or heavy item, please do not attempt to carry it to the testing session. Instead, bring the power lead and plug only.

Residents from any hall of residence can attend PAT testing at any advertised location on any of the available dates.

Please remember to bring your Keele Card along with any items that need testing.
Electrical items found in your accommodation after the PAT testing sessions that do not display a valid PAT testing sticker will be removed. You will be responsible for arranging collection and either removing the item from campus or having it tested privately before it can be used.
PAT testing will take place between 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm on the dates below. Testing is not available between 12pm-1pm, during the engineer’s lunch break, so please make sure you arrive between 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm to avoid disappointment.

Tuesday 22 September - Lindsay Student Lounge located at Lindsay Hall
Wednesday 23 September - Barnes Student Lounge located at Barnes Hall
Thursday 24 September - HollyOaks Student Lounge located at Holly Cross and The Oaks Halls
