Why Keele?

Put yourself in the right place

“I wanted a university with a big campus, it is peaceful to study here and the beautiful scenery inspires me.”

Overview of Keele Video

Postgraduate Taught

General

The particular entry requirements for each course are given in the individual postgraduate course listings.  As a general rule, you will need the equivalent of a UK honours degree at second-class standard or higher and if English is not your first language you will need to provide an appropriate qualification. Staff will be happy to advise on the acceptability of your qualifications before you apply. International students please also see the relevant section.

English Language Requirements

Anyone applying from a country where English is not the first language is required to show evidence of English language competence, obtaining at least an IELTS score of 6.5 (with no subtest lower than 5.5) or hold a previous degree which has been taught and examined in English, unless the specific entry for the course indicates otherwise.

Making an Application

You can apply to study at Keele using the link on each course page to the online application form

This online application will allow you to complete your personal details and enter your qualifications (those completed or those you are still studying for). You can also upload your personal statement and scanned/pdf copies of transcripts and copies of certificates. When you make an application you will be given a web login to allow you to track the progress of your application, submit any further information required and to respond to offers of a place online. There is no application fee.

Please note that we encourage you to apply as soon as possible, and before you complete any qualifications required for entry, including English language tests where appropriate. You will need to include a personal statement, explaining why you are applying for the particular course and including details of any relevant work or professional experience. You will need to supply Keele University with originals or certified copies of relevant qualifications before you will be allowed to enrol at Keele (and for international students this is a condition of issuing the CAS for the student visa.

If you are an international applicant there is further information about agents and visas on the pages for international applicants.

Closing Dates

For MSc Neuromusculoskeletal Health Care, MSc Physiotherapy and MSc Neurological Rehabilitation there is an application closing date of 30 June 2012, and we will only consider applications from applicants who meet all conditions of entry to the course and supply all their relevant documentation to us by 31 July 2012.

For all other courses there is no closing date but we advise that applications for courses that start in September should, if possible, be made by the end of May at the very latest. This is particularly true for international students so that we have enough time to issue you with the necessary documentation for your visa. If you know that you are not able to meet our English language requirements you should apply earlier, so that an offer can be made to attend a pre-sessional English course. If you wish to live on campus it is particularly important that you apply early.

If you apply later than one month (two months for international applicants requiring a visa) before the start of your intended course, we cannot guarantee that all the paperwork will be completed by the start date.

Processing Applications

You will receive an acknowledgement of your application within 24 hours and we aim to process applications, and dispatch our decision on your application, within 10 working days. We will send offer letters by email. You should note that the processing of your application might be delayed if the information provided on your form is incomplete or if we are awaiting copies of qualifications. Once a decision on your application has been reached, we will email you this. Sometimes our offer of a place is conditional upon performance in examinations that you still have to take – this could include English language tests. Offers may also be conditional on you sending us references, or confirmatory certificates or transcripts.

Please make sure that you send us such information as soon as possible, otherwise there may be a delay in making your offer unconditional and, for international students this will delay us issuing you with the paperwork for you to apply for your student visa.

Accepting a Place

Once you have received your offer, you will need to email us to accept your offer. Full details of how to do this will be in your offer letter. Please note that if we make you an offer of a place at Keele, this does not mean that the University will provide any financial assistance. Any scholarship or bursary awards will be made to you separately. If you accept an offer from Keele, you must agree to observe the Charter, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University. If you have declared a disability on your equal opportunities monitoring form, and if we make you an offer of a place, then we will inform our Disability Services Co-ordinator who will contact you to discuss your support needs.

Pre-Arrival Information

Once you have accepted the unconditional offer of a place at Keele, or met the conditions of any offer, then you will be sent pre-arrival information. We will send this out from July 2012 for students starting their course in September 2012. In addition, your School will contact you about starting your course and any preparations you need to make.

For international and EU students, the actual date of your arrival in the UK will also be affected by whether you are taking any presessional English Language courses.

How to Pay

Tuition fees can be paid in two instalments – October and January; on-campus accommodation fees are payable in three instalments – in October, January and May.

You will be given notice of the deadlines for payment before you arrive at Keele. You can pay by: cash, cheque, traveller’s cheque, direct debit, credit card, debit card or bank transfer. If you are being sponsored by an employer or a family member, you must inform Keele (we will send you a form to complete) so that the University can send the fees invoice to your sponsor. Please note that we have firm deadlines for the receipt of all fees, so if there is likely to be any delay in the payments reaching Keele you must inform the Income Office at Keele immediately.

International Study Centre

Should you not match Keele’s postgraduate degree entrance requirements, you can take the Pre-Masters programme at the International Study Centre.
