The rare transit of planet Mercury across the Sun on November 11th 2019 was observed from Keele Observatory through its specialist solar telescopes, despite poor weather overall. This attracted dozens of visitors and prominent media attention from BBC Radio Stoke and The Sentinel and from Cross Rhythms Radio. It showcases techniques that are used to detect and study planets around other stars, until recently with Keele's Super-WASP and also with Keele Observatory's Thornton telescope. The next transit of Mercury will not happen until 2032.
