Come and chat 4 November 2019 - feedback and responses

- Some of you love the Library space and can find somewhere you like to study. You like the atmosphere of the silent study areas.
- We received lots of comments about the friendliness and helpfulness of the Library and IT staff – that’s great to hear. Thank you.
- You like the 24/7 opening hours throughout term time – this is great as we intend to carry this on throughout the remainder of this academic year. You also liked the availability of IT and Library staff over long hours.
- Some of you said that the study areas on the middle floor are too noisy. We are looking to make some changes to these spaces and have already started by moving the reference collection out of the Red Room and setting out a quiet “time-out” zone to take a break from your studies.
The whole of the middle floor is for individual and quiet collaborative study. If you don’t want to study, then we are recommending that you find an alternative location as the Library is for studying in. - You asked about social spaces. The Library does not have any social spaces – we are a study environment.
We have a Refreshments Area on the ground floor where we ask that you consume any hot food which you are bringing into the building. If you want to socialise, please use alternative buildings such as the Students Union or Chancellors. - You asked if there could be an online system to book library and IT rooms. Our IT team area currently reviewing this and we hope to have a solution soon.
- You asked if there could be toilets on other floors. At the moment we can’t easily add more toilets throughout the building because of existing plumbing but we do ensure that the ground floor facilities are regularly re-stocked and cleaned.
- You like the resources we make available in the Library and online. Some of you felt that the resources should be easier to find and the web site easier to use. We have launched a new website this semester – we hope that you like it.
- You like our workshops and you are invited to our “in a nutshell” sessions which run throughout the academic year on such things as creating a search strategy, analysing search results. These sessions are advertised via our web site and also on social media. We also have Library in a nutshell which is a short tutorial showing how to use the search facility. It’s available from our web pages: https://webapp-par-40023.azurewebsites.net/other/library-in-a-nutshell/
- You like the resources we make available in the Library and online. Some of you felt that the resources should be easier to find and the web site easier to use. We have launched a new website this semester – we hope that you like it.
- You like our laptop repair service and that Microsoft Office is provided for students. We will continue this throughout the academic year.
