Education for sustainability

At Keele we take our role in educating students for a more sustainable future seriously. Creating a 'more environmentally-aware and sustainable outward facing campus community' is one of the University's six strategic aims, whilst the Learning and Teaching strategy includes 'ensuring students are informed about and engaged in the sustainability agenda both within and beyond their academic curriculum' as its 5th aim.

In order to achieve our aim of embedding Education for Sustainability (EfS) into the curriculum and student experience, we have created a Education for Sustainability Strategy 2014 - 2022. The strategy outlines key ways that sustainability is embedded including through undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, through collaboration with Estates, the Students' Union and professional services throughout the University, through research, external engagement and outreach, and through governance and monitoring and review processes.

This page focuses on 'Education for Sustainability' for Keele students and staff. If you would like more information about our work with schools, businesses, and community groups, visit the Keele Sustainability Hub page.

This document highlights 16 modules which have been mapped to the QAA Education for Sustainable Development descriptions and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The case studies aim to celebrate existing progress and demonstrate how other modules could embed sustainability themes into learning and teaching.
