A theme of research within Dr Heidi Fuller’s lab at the Wolfson Centre for Inherited Neuromuscular Disease (CIND), RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital, is focused on cardiac defects in neuromuscular diseases, including spinal muscular atrophy and congenital muscular dystrophy.

Vinoj’s group researches on producing in vitro cardiac models from patient-derived human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) that would mimic in vivo disease phenotypes and is applying genome engineering to reverse phenotype-associated mechanisms.

Dr Ian Holt & Professor Glenn Morris

Dr Ian Holt & Professor Glenn Morris currently study the role of nuclear membrane proteins (emerin, SUN, nesprins) and intercalated disc proteins (POPDCs, XIRPs) in cardiac conduction, especially in relation to human genetic disease (Emery-Dreifuss and other muscular dystrophies with cardiac conduction defects) and with particular interest in the short isoforms of nesprins that are found only in skeletal and cardiac muscles.
