Electronic Health Record Research

The School of Medicine has a diverse and highly successful programme of methodological and applied research utilising electronic health record (EHR) data. We use research databases such as the national UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink and national cardiovascular audit data derived from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR). We also conduct research using EHR linked to self-reported data from participants in our observational and intervention studies who consent to such linkage.

Our research is spread across a range of clinical areas with a particularly strong focus on musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and mental health conditions, within multi-disciplinary teams. We have developed code lists and algorithms for a range of morbidities, management options including prescriptions, and outcomes which are available for other researchers to use.
