Medical Record Data Research

The School of Medicine has a diverse programme of research utilising medical record / electronic health record (EHR) data. We use primary care databases such as the UK national Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD, www.cprd.com), and have historically used the regional Consultations in Primary Care Archive (CiPCA). We also conduct research using medical record data linked to self-reported survey data in research participants consenting to such linkage.

Our research is spread across a range of clinical areas with a particularly strong focus on musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and mental health conditions. We have developed code lists and algorithms for a range of morbidities, management options including prescriptions, and outcomes which are available for other researchers to use.
