CATs inspiring patient involvement

"I was recently invited to attend a CAT group meeting to observe and contribute from a patient and public perspective. My attendance was welcomed by the members as was my input. I listened carefully to the group discussions and gained a clearer understanding of how patient and public involvement could be beneficial. I was able to ask important questions regarding some of the intricacies of certain processes and in return gathered the information necessary to develop an understanding with the patient viewpoint in mind. I found the experience both interesting and informative and of vital importance in the development of patient and public involvement."

Student CATs

MSci Year 2 students submitted posters for their assignment for the module 'Implementing evidence into practice.' Two of the best submissions are shown here:

  • Does virtual reality training improve balance and risk of falls in the elderly population compared to a general physical activity programme?
  • Is acupuncture and medical advice an effective treatment of low back pain?

Students worked in groups and chose one of four clinical questions derived from the students in a prior session. They followed the CAT process and presented it as a poster (followed by an oral presentation for the assessment).
