Prunus x subhirtella 'Yae-edo-higan'

Prunus subhirtella Yae-edo-higan

Edo-higan is the Japanese name for the Spring or Equinox Cherry from what is now Tokyo. Its most recent botanical name is Prunus itosakura var. ascendens. It is normally an early pinky-white single flowering cherry. However, the prefix Yae means double, so this must be a selection made for the production of double or semi-double flowers (i.e. more than five petals).
