Following a BA in International Relations at Dresden, Germany, and an MA in Environmental Governance from Essex, I received my PhD in Government from the University of Essex in 2015. I stayed on at Essex as a teaching fellow for Environmental Politics before coming to Keele for the academic year 2015-16.

Spanning the fields of environmental theory and normative democratic theory in equal measure, my PhD thesis showed that environmental sustainability has both ecological and ethical dimensions and conceptually presupposes a particular form of associo-deliberative democracy.

My further research interests include deliberative democracy, culture and democracy, critical theory, ideal and non-ideal theory, and environmental politics.

Research and scholarship

My research interest is in democratic theory and environmental political theory, and their intersection. In particular, I am interested in deliberative democracy, especially in relation to culture; the concept of environmental sustainability, and its governance; associative democracy and the democratic role of civic associations; as well as a few other issues in environmental politics, democratic theory, and political philosophy.

I am currently working on a conceptualisation of deliberative democracy as a political culture; an account of sustainability as social-ecological resilience; and an argument on democratic sustainability politics and eco-citizenship.
