Secrets Revealed: Keele University Levitation Society

A highly secretive society at Keele University has been revealed through new groundbreaking footage of its latest levitation attempt.

The video, viewable at http://www.keele.ac.uk/levitation, shows students attempt to levitate Keele’s clock tower as part of their 45th anniversary celebrations.

The Keele University Levitation Society (KULS) was established in 1970 after 300 students attempted to levitate the clock tower 250 feet into the air, with the aim of achieving ‘spiritual unity’ amongst the student body and to get a better view of the motorway.

Whilst reports of the original levitation attempt differ from person to person, it was reported by Gerry Northam for BBC Radio Stoke at the time that the tower did actually levitate six inches, give or take six inches.

Luna Airheart, President of the Keele Levitation Society, said: “When I first came to Keele there were so many different societies to join... Sports, drama, music. But a friend then floated the idea past me that we joined the secret Levitation Society.

“This year we’re celebrating our 45th anniversary, and as part of this we invited Gerry along to report on our levitation attempt. In doing so we hope to attract new members and reach new heights.

“Students who want to get involved can contact me at luna.airheart@gmail.com. No experience is necessary, just a focused mind and sensible shoes.”
