Keele Writing: Anthology 1

Book Launch / Keele Hall (Salvin Room) / May 8th 2015 7.30pm

On Friday May 8th members of the public are invited to Keele Hall to hear readings from the best of Keele’s creative writers and to celebrate the publication of 'Keele Writing: Anthology 1', a collection of new writing.

The event is free of charge and will take place in the beautiful Salvin Rooms at the historic Keele Hall. After the readings there will be a party at the Keele Postgraduate Association. Literature and revelry: what more could you ask for?

Keele University is home to one of the fastest growing Creative Writing programmes in the country.

Students of Creative Writing at Keele are mentored by prize-winning poets and novelists: Gwendoline Riley, Joe Stretch, Emma Henderson, James Sheard.

Graduates of the MA Creative Writing include Chris Prendergast, whose debut novel was published to high acclaim by Salt in 2014, Deborah Alma, whose  ‘Emergency Poet’ project has received international press coverage, Liz Lefroy, whose most recent pamphlet was endorsed by the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

Joe Stretch – Winner of the Somerset Maugham Award 2013- said: ‘The teaching of Creative Writing is regularly attacked – normally by ageing writers with a novel to promote. The same question is rarely asked of painting, guitar playing or sculpture, which is strange when you think about it. I think Creative Writing’s about a teachable as Maths. I think right now, the ability to make something from nothing, to turn a blank page into a world, is a useful skill to have, whether you get published or not.’
