The Academy specialises in developing effective clinical leaders and our Consultants Programme has been created, and is delivered, by senior clinicians and experienced NHS managers to develop your confidence and competence as a leader in modern healthcare.  Designed around three modules, it focuses on the key knowledge and practical skills you need to effectively lead your service or team, making it suitable for consultants in all specialties and for those who have a designated leadership role.

Module 1: Fundamentals of Medical Leadership 

  • Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 March 2020

Two day course covering the basics of medical management and leadership. Aimed at all consultants and specialists who occupy a clinical post but wish to develop an understanding of the leadership and management aspects that are inherent in all senior medical roles. 

Module 2: Politics and the Leadership Environment 

  • Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 May 2020

Aimed at all consultants and specialists with an interest in leadership, including those who aspire to, or hold, a leadership position. This course builds on the fundamental themes, and uses real life study to explore the nuances of the leadership environment. 

Module 3: The Senior Medical Leader 

  • Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July 2020

This module is aimed at medics who occupy formal leadership roles, or who aspire to taking up a post. The focus is on the current environment and set of challenges, and on providing a range of approaches to address common leadership issues in the workplace

In addition to attending the course, you also have the opportunity to use your learning towards obtaining a Keele University Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Leadership and Management at a discounted rate.
