I began my career as an English teacher and taught for twelve years in secondary schools in Somerset. In 1995 I left teaching to become a Project Officer on the DfEE ICT in English Project managed by the National Council for Educational Technology/BECTa. From 1996-1988 I lectured at Birmingham University in English in Education. After completing an MA in the Teaching and Practice of Creative Writing in 1999, I taught Creative Writing at Cardiff University while continuing to work in teacher education with the Open University as English Coordinator on the Learning Schools Programme. During this time, I also worked as a Development Officer for LAPIDUS, an Arts Council-funded association for the literary arts in personal development, education and health. After one year lecturing in English at Edge Hill University, I came to Keele in 2003 as Course Leader for PGCE English. In 2014 I became Director of the MA in Higher Education Practice and am currently seconded (0.7 fte) from the Faculty of HUMSS to KIITE where I continue to direct the MA HEP and lead on the Transitions to Leadership programme. I combine these roles with being the HUMSS Faculty Lead for Interdisciplinary Education and Programme Director for Liberal Arts.
