Biography
I gained a degree in History from the University of Nottingham and worked for two years at the National Audit Office before returning to Nottingham to complete a PGCE in History and English. I then taught a variety of subjects, including History, at secondary level for a number of years and was Assistant Director of Performing Arts at a school in Staffordshire (2006–08) before setting up an English literacy project in 2009. For a number of years I have set national standards for A-Level Performing Arts and have been responsible for a team of examiners.
Research and scholarship
I embarked on an MRES at Keele University in 2010, researching the life of a Georgian businesswoman, Barbara Ford of Ashbourne, and began a PhD focusing on female enterprise in Georgian Derbyshire c.1780–1830 in 2011.
