University Statement on Cost of Living

More help needed to support students with cost of living

The cost-of-living crisis is having a major impact on students. As a University we are investing in additional hardship funding and services to help our students, but more support from Government is urgently needed.

For the 2023/24 academic year, we are asking the Government to:

• Increase the amount of money provided via maintenance loans in line with inflation
• Increase the lower household income threshold from £25,000 to £33,000
• Allocate more funding to university hardship funds, and funds to encourage access and participation groups to enter university
• Adopt all the recommendations put forward by the All-Party Parliamentary Group
