Curating development

Curating Development explores Filipino migrants’ aspirations for and contribution to development in the Philippines. We sought to define how, when and under what conditions migrants in Hong Kong and London could and did contribute to development in the Philippines, using community art, art collaboration and curation.

We produced an exhibition – Beyond Myself – that travelled from London to Hong Kong and Manila. In the process we conducted interviews and completed questionnaires with our participants and exhibition visitors.

Our findings shed new light on the connections between labour migration and (under)development and our methodology offers new ways to engage migrants and their advocates in migration policy.
