The Wellcome Trust has awarded a Biomedical Vacation Scholarship to Keele medical student William Jacobek.

These awards provide promising undergraduates with an 8-week stipend to allow them to gain hands-on experience of research during the summer vacation, with the aim of encouraging them to consider a future career in research. This year, Keele University has been awarded three Biomedical Vacation Scholarships, including one for Keele medical student William Jacobek to work on 'Antimalarial activity of temperate-zone plant secondary products' in the lab of Professor Paul Horrocks.

Two other students, Desire Gogo-Fyneface (Keele University, Neuroscience and Psychology) and Charlotte Graham (Royal Holloway University of London, Psychology) are working in the research teams of Dave Furness (Developing fibrocyte transplantation to prevent age-related hearing loss) and Nicky Edelstyn (Revisiting Memory Disorder in Parkinson’s Disease).
